I just wanted to be able rant about a topic I'm passionate about. That's why I'm making this a thing whenever I feel like it. ANYWAY Black midi, for those fortunate enough to never have heard of it/heard it, is a crazy genre of music that involves sheet music that looks like this: You can see where it get's its name from.
But that void of music isn't devoid of tonality and rhythm. For instance, a good black midi song should be humanly impossible to play, but you can keep a steady beat to it. My favorite for doing this is Death Waltz (that's what I call it, I'm not joining the dispute) and Night of Nights. Tonality, on the other hand, takes a bit of getting used to. Blackers, as they're called, basically will use lots of notes really fast, which can sometimes make thing sound higher (in layman's terms). But other than that, they use runs, but not like the kind every kid does (or tries to do anyway) on the piano, but moving an entire chord up and down the piano really fast to create a woosh or buildup. Or just for more notes, which seems to be the point of it all. The world record is 53 million notes (I think). |
